Pinocchio Movie directed by Guillermo del Toro

Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson are set to co-direct Pinocchio, a stop-motion animated movie based on Carlo Collodi's classic tale. Matthew Robbins is in charge of the screenplay. Filming should start in 2013. They're eyeing a release in 2014.

Take a look to those artworks done for the film:

Plot:
"The wooden puppet Pinocchio embarks on a series of extraordinary and thrilling adventures, proving himself to be as indestructible as his love for his father."

A few words from Director Guillermo del Toro about his take on Pinocchio:

"There has to be darkness in any fairy tale or children’s narrative work, something the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson and Walt Disney understood. We tend to call something Disney-fied, but a lot of people forget how powerfully disturbing the best animated Disney movies are, including those kids being turned into donkeys in Pinocchio. What we’re trying to do is present a Pinocchio that is more faithful to the take that original author Carlo Colodi wrote. That is more surreal and slightly darker than what we’ve seen before."
Director Guillermo del Toro

A darker version of the classic children's fairy tale? A stop motion animated movie directed by Guillermo del Toro? The whole thing in 3D? Sounds like a winner to me! Let's hope Del Toro will start shooting this film as soon as possible!

More information about the movie Pinocchio as soon as details emerge.
